KUCHING: No human remains or skeletons were found in the stomach of a crocodile captured by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) at Lorong 2C Samariang Aman last night (Jan 1).
According to the corporation, the 11-foot-long reptile, weighing an estimated 250kg, was caught at 10.30 pm.
The post-mortem conducted by SFC experts revealed the presence of plastic waste, garbage, and animal waste, including chicken used as bait in the reptile’s stomach.
In light of this, the corporation urged communities residing near the river to refrain from using it as a dumping ground, as such practices attract crocodiles to the area.
Two weeks ago, on Dec 23, 15-year-old Mohammad Faqrul Zaimi was snatched by a crocodile while fishing with a friend in a river in Samariang.
It was only until Christmas Eve morning that the partial remains of the Faqrul were discovered upstream, showing severe injuries, including missing limbs and a broken neck.
In the aftermath of the fatal crocodile attack, SFC mobilised its Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) to conduct a crocodile removal operation, installing traps along the river.
The operation is scheduled to continue until Jan 6.
