KUCHING: Slanted telephone poles which posed a risk to residents of Stampin Resettlement Scheme have been set upright, thanks to quick action by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (PCB).

The problem first came to light after SUPP PCB chief Wilfred Yap was approached by local residents on the matter while on the ground (turun padang) at the area with SUPP members recently.

“During a recent turun padang activity at Lorong 35, Stampin Resettlement Scheme, the residents complained about a few telephone poles which were slanting badly and they were worried that the poles would topple in the event of strong winds.

“Following the complaints, SUPP PCB immediately contacted Telekom Malaysia Berhad, and the slanting telephone poles have been straightened after that.

“SUPP PCB would like to thank Telekom Malaysia Berhad for their professionalism and speedy action in resolving the issue,” he said in a statement today.

The SUPP Kota Sentosa Branch chairman added that the residents at Lorong 35, Stampin Resettlement Scheme also complained about the poor condition of earth drains in the area.

“The poor drainage condition are blocking and impeding the flow of water causing water stagnation and flash floods every time it rains heavily.

“As such, the residents had requested for upgrading works of earth and concrete drains to prevent flash floods and waterlogged roads.

“On behalf of all the residents of Stampin Resettlement Scheme, SUPP PCB appeals to the federal and state governments to allocate development funds for upgrading works of all the earth and concrete drains to resolve the problems of dilapidated drainage situation which is long outstanding,” he said.

SUPP PCB is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems or who come across problems of public interest but do not know how to deal with it.
