KUCHING: There is no need for any formal charter to be sign between Perikatan Nasional (PN), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said Sarawak’s main focus now is on the coming state election which is due any time before June 7 next year.

“Personally, I feel that there need not be any formal charter or arrangement signed between PN, BN or GPS,” he said.

He said this in response to a statement by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin on Dec 11, who had proposed a formal charter comprising PN, BN and GPS to ensure they jointly contest the next 15th general election.

Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture as well as Youth and Sports, said GPS is a coalition of Sarawakian parties focused in protecting Sarawak’s rights.

“Let the status quo remain whereby GPS parties and its MPs will be supportive of PN and BN in Parliament, and the federal government to ensure that the government will always be stable,” he said.

He said as far as Sarawak policies are concerned; let Sarawak-based parties handle it.
