KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is miles ahead of the federal government in providing rural infrastructure to rural dwellers.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau ticked off Putrajaya for its implementation of the Village Community Management Committee (MPKK) and said there was no need for its formation.

“I don’t really see the need to have another body when in most longhouses, there are already several committees and they have been very effective and efficient,” said Dennis during a ceremony to distribute water tanks at Nahah A, Ulu Baram yesterday.

“In Malaysia, and in our education system in particular, how can the federal agency concerned work with schools if the schools are not working with the District Education Office?

“Although we are not denying that we need help on all fronts including from Putrajaya, the existing committees (JKKK) are already good enough.”

Dennis pointed out that since 1963, billions had been spent to deliver projects to rural dwellers in the state.

“This was given to all registered longhouses or villages in Sarawak. This was tripled when Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg assumed leadership.”

During the ceremony, the assemblyman distributed 134 water tanks to the villagers. Also present was community leader Ajeng Wan.
