No new cases for second consecutive day

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new positive Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day on Tuesday (June 23), with the total number of positive cases in the state thus far remaining at 569.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said no new cases had recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

“The total number of positive Covid-19 cases which has recovered and been discharged remains at 535, or 94.02 percent.

“Twenty new people under investigation (PUI) cases have been reported, and four are still pending laboratory results,”it added.

It said 17 individuals were still receiving treatment at isolation wards in hospitals. Of these, eight were in the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here while nine were in Bintulu Hospital. 

Thus far, the virus has caused 17 deaths in the state since the first positive case was reported on March 13.

SDMC added tht 62 persons under surveillance (PUS) had been checked into hotels on Tuesday to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at 14 hotels to 961 while 16,538 PUS had completed their quarantine period.

On surveillance of compliance with the recovery movement control order (RMCO), the committee reported that 2,026 premises had been surveyed. They comprised supermarkets (199), restaurants (461), factories (14), banks (160) government offices (76), hawkers (44), public markets (121), places of worship (92), recreational places (57), construction sites (18) and others (784).

Involved were 628 RMCO compliance surveillance teams consisting of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and so on.
