No new deaths, 423 cases recorded

KUCHING: Sarawak has recorded no new Covid-19 related deaths, while there is an increase of positive cases at 423 today (July 16) compared to 363 cases on Thursday (July 15).

This brings the cumulative number of positive cases in the state to 70,651.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching recorded the highest cases at 238, followed by Meradong (26); Sibu (23); Betong (21); Serian (15); Saratok (13); 11 cases each in Bintulu and Kapit; 10 cases each in Kapit and Bau, six in Subis; five cases each in Pakan and Tatau; four cases each in Beluru and Matu; three in Simunjan; and two cases each in Mukah, Lundu, Telang Usan and Marudi.

Miri, Samarahan, Asajaya, Sri Aman, Bukit Mabong, Selangau, Song, Dalat, Julau and Pusa district recorded one case respectively.

No cases were recorded in the districts of Tebedu, Kanowit, Sebauh, Belaga, Limbang, Lubok Antu, Kabong, Tanjung Manis, Lawas and Daro.

Of these cases, the committee said that a total of 247 cases were individuals who had close contact to Covid-19 positive cases, 87 were individuals from an existing active cluster, 37 from a screening of symptomatic individuals at health facilities, and 52 from other screenings at health facilities

SDMC said there were 849 cases that have recovered and were allowed to be discharged from the respective hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) statewide.

This number brings the total recovered and discharged patients to 64,963 or 91.95 percent of the total cases.

There are still 5,080 individuals undergoing treatment at the hospitals and PKRCs in the state.
