MUKAH: There was no panic buying for essential items at major shopping centres here today following the announcement by the government of a statewide movement control order (MCO) from May 29 to June 11.

New Sarawak Tribune discovered that business was as usual at major shopping centres here as of 5.30pm.

There were no long queues at the entrance or the payment counters.

One of the reasons could be that many were still unaware of the latest development, as the MCO was announced late today.

A customer, identified only as Alex, said he was purchasing essential items as usual, not because of the looming MCO.

“Yes, I learnt about the statewide MCO from social media today,” he said.

The news about the MCO was reported online by a local news portal about two hours before the official announcement was made.
