He said the Health Ministry on September 8 this year, had announced plans to upgrade Mukah Hospital to Minor Specialist Hospital.

“Thus, the state has no plans to build a new hospital in Mukah,” said Tiang, responding to Royston Valentine (GPS-Tellian) at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

On a supplementary question; Royston also asked for an explanation of the Cluster Hospital concept and what are the visiting specialist services provided in Mukah Hospital.

“A cluster comprising several hospitals in the same locality is led by a major specialist or state hospital which aims to improve coordination between hospitals and to increase coverage of specialist care.

“This shall help to improve the quality of healthcare delivery to the community regardless of location,” he added.

To date, six cluster hospitals involving 23 hospitals in Sarawak have been formed.

Tiang added that Mukah Hospital currently offering visiting specialist services in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Psychiatry, Otorhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose & Throat), Ophthalmology (Eye), Paediatric, Emergency Medicine and Radiology.
