KUCHING: Following the advice of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council has decided there will be no Ramadan bazaars.

Its chairman Datuk Peter Minos, in a statement, said the health and safety of the people were top priorities.

“If we allow the bazaars to operate, there is no way we can effectively monitor and enforce the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“This is because the bazaars have always been popular and also attract huge crowds,” he said.

Minos added that the council was following the steps of other city councils in the state on the matter.

He urged the public to continue supporting the government’s effort in fighting the virus.

“Until the virus is gone, the fight against Covid-19 continues on, earnestly and relentlessly,” he added.
