KUCHING: There has been no negotiation on the sharing of seats for the 12th state election between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

GPS secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi clarified the matter following a recent news report which quoted him as confirming such negotiation had taken place.

“I would like to deny ever giving such a statement. I would like to stress, no such negotiation has even been or will be held.

“In fact, GPS will contest in all 82 seats in the next state election. Therefore, I would like to correct the wrong message reported in some media outlet,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He explained what actually happened during a press conference held on Oct 21 here was that he had been asked about the Bersatu seat in Sarawak, namely Krian seat held by Datuk Ali Biju.

“In response to that question, I simply stated that the position of the Krian seat will be discussed by GPS. The answer given does not refer to any other state seats,” he said.

Nanta reiterated that GPS would not give any seats to any other party besides its components.

“I am disappointed with the actions of some media who put words in my mouth to sensationalise the issue of seat distribution in conjunction with the 12th state election.

“With this explanation, I hope all parties get the real facts and no more issues about it will arise,” he said.
