KUCHING: The Sarawak government has assured that the Arabic words ‘Darul Hana’ has never been used to describe Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said if there is such a matter, it would need to get the approval of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) first.
“No, there is no agreement to change to Sarawak Darul Hana. You have to go through the DUN,” he told reporters when met after the Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) 24th anniversary celebration and the launch of the ‘The Last Ring Ladies’ mural at Kota Padawan Mall today.
When asked on the action of Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) using Darul Hana for Sarawak, he said to let them be.
“There are those who just want to create issues because they don’t have any more issues to talk about.
“They create such an issue so that people go against the government. You know, to sensationalise the issue,” he said.
“Since when (change to Sarawak Darul Hana)? If the government is doing so, I would know about it, but I don’t,” he said.
Abang Johari added that he was also surprised to hear that certain quarters had alleged that the state government will use the Darul Hana word to refer to Sarawak.
“The state government only uses the Darul Hana on a bridge, housing development and a mosque because these are near to Kampung Darul Hana,” he said.
