KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar disagrees with the idea of relaxing the immigration requirements between Sarawak and Sabah.

He supports the state government’s stand not to relax the entry requirements.

“Looking from the social and development standpoints, we have to see differences between Sabah and Sarawak.

“Sabah people are actually under pressure but since they are now a part of the government, their lips are shut.

“Foreign registrations and entries are widespread in Sabah.

“In Sarawak, only the newborns in the state become Sarawakians. We do not allow foreigners to become Sarawakians.

“It is not a secret issue that even Pakistanis go to Sabah to apply for Malaysian citizenships,” he told reporters when visiting the victims of a recent fire at Kpg Sejingkat, Jalan Bako here yesterday.

Recalling his on-the-ground experience in conducting raids in 2016 involving almost 2,000 Filipino immigrants in Baram, Wan Junaidi said, “I was there from dusk till dawn to capture over 600 immigrants who were later deported. These immigrants came from Sabah before resettling in Baram.

“We may have cooperation and collaborations with Sabah. However, the immigration requirements   between Sabah and Sarawak must not be relaxed.”
