KUCHING: The government is urged not to allow container and baking supply stores to operate because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women chief Kho Teck Wan said that she was against government’s decision to allow the operations of these stores  in view of the coming Raya and Gawai festive seasons this year.

“As much as I love our togetherness culture, I am against it until we find an effective drug or vaccine for Covid-19.

“It is not about the stores opening, it is the consequence of making lots of good food, which is naturally followed by the urge to invite people over to enjoy it,” she said in a press statement, yesterday.

Kho also advised the public to forgo Raya and Gawai visits this year and celebrate the festivals only with their own family members.

“What is the point of celebrating just to mourn the death of a loved one later?” she added.

“We can have big celebrations later without risking any lives.”
