KUCHING: The children in welfare institutions will surely miss the late Toh Puan Norkiah, said Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

The Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development added that the late Norkiah would often bring new clothes and shoes for the children to wear during Hari Raya celebrations.

“Our children at the welfare institutions such as Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Norkiah, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Datuk Ajibah Abol and Taman Sri Puteri to name a few will miss her for her love, care and concern on their wellbeing.

“During the month of Ramadan and before the Hari Raya celebration, she will bring them out to buy new clothes and shoes. Similarly, the poor and the needy in our community will also miss her,” she said.

Fatimah disclosed that she would miss the discussions that she always had with the late Norkiah.

“Her last phone call to me was before she fell sick. She was asking the social welfare department (JKM) to help find a place to stay for a poor senior citizen who has no family members.

“I will miss our discussion on wellbeing for that is an area that was close to her heart. May Allah SWT grant her Jannah,” she added.
