KUCHING: Noryn Aziz, Rem and Syafiq Farhain are among top Malaysian artistes who will entertain the people at the New Year Countdown 2019 celebration at the Kuching Waterfront here on Dec 31.
Noryn is one of Malaysia’s renowned jazz and R&B singers; Rem, a pop singer from Sibu is famous for his “Semua Orang Tahu” song while Shafiq, son of the late Saleem of the group Iklim is currently popular with his song “Sayang Maafkan Aku”.
Meanwhile, local artistes such as Rozanne Lee, Firdaus, Felicia Gek, Gabriel Tan, Siti Hajar Mohiden and Nor Fauzana Wahid will also be featured on stage.
“From 5pm, revellers who come early will be entertained by experimental world music band At Adau and others such as Bello Busker, On String (country and western band), D Legacy and performers from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak and Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology Sarawak.
“Some 300 performers under the coordination of Sarawak Arts Council will also be performing both traditional and contemporary dances reflecting the harmonious multiracial people of Sarawak,” said Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at a press conference at UTC Kuching here yesterday.
According to him, food lovers need not have to worry as food trucks selling various types of food and drinks will be available from 5pm.
Karim also encouraged members of the public to carpool to the event, not to park their cars illegally and to be alert to road closure notices from the police to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to launch the event at 10.30pm.
