BINTULU:  Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth is asking AirAsia to re-consider its suspension of the Kuching-Shenzhen route.

Its chief Micheal Tiang said the suspension was giving a bad impression of the state’s tourism industry.

Ting, who is also a political secretary to the Chief Minister, said the package flight, which involves a transit to Kuala Lumpur, was not good enough.

“We don’t want fly through package. We want direct flight to boost our tourism sector.

“Fly through package is nothing new to us, we don’t want fly through package flight,” he said a brief press conference held on the sideline of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Chinese New Year open house Sunday.

Tiang said Democratic Action Party (DAP) representatives from Sarawak should speak up for the state on the issue since they are in the current government.

Tiang went on to say that Sarawakians should support Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s suggestion to have its own airlines to have control over what routes to take to help create economic activities and in particular, to help propel the tourism sector.

Tiang hopes that AirAsia did not scrap the route because of federal government pressure.
