KUCHING: Less than two weeks after the temporary alternate road to Jalan Stutong was opened to relieve traffic congestion along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, the notorious ‘Jemarahan’ has returned on today (Jan 16).

After commuters were stranded in the awful, agonising traffic jams – some for several hours, the infamous term “Jemarahan” (‘jem’ + ‘Samarahan’) has begun trending on social media once more.

A local Facebook page, Sarawak Roads Update, reported that the crawl started at the TT3 roundabout.

Hundreds of commuters commented on the post, expressing their dismay that it was an endless problem with no solution in sight.

The road in front of CMS Cement Pending was reportedly at a standstill as of 5.15pm.

On Jan 5, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said traffic police and wardens would be deployed to assist and manage the traffic flow along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.

Meanwhile, at the opening of the temporary alternative road along the expressway heading towards BDC on Jan 6, Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng stressed that cooperation from various parties was necessary.

If there were issues, he advised the public to use the appropriate channels rather than taking out their frustrations on social media.

Until the expressway is fully completed, he said the opening of the alternate road might cause some inconvenience to locals.
