Now 25 active clusters in state

KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster named the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster has been identified by the Sarawak Health Department, making the state’s total number of Covid-19 active clusters to 25.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement yesterday, said that the new cluster in Betong district was a community cluster due to a private social gathering on Feb 10.

“The index case for the cluster is ase 7,407, a 50-year-old local man who was detected through symptomatic screening on Feb 16. The case began showing symptoms and signs on Feb 14.

“The result of screening and close contact tracing found 17 new Covid-19 positive cases. All 18 cases including the index case were admitted to Sarikei Hospital and the low-risk quarantine centre (PKRC) in Sarikei,” it said.

SDMC added that of the 110 individuals screened for this cluster, 18 individuals were found positive including the index case while 45 individuals were found negative and another 47 individuals are still waiting for their results.

The committee said no new cases were recorded for the Jalan Green Cluster and Indah Riang Cluster in Kuching,  Kejatau Cluster and Sebangkoi Cluster in Sri Aman, Jan Yong Cluster and Gelong Cluster in Kapit, and Geronggang Cluster and Mas Merah Cluster in Sibu.

“There were also no new cases reported in the Jun Heng Cluster in Bintulu,  Bintang Daily Cluster in Meradong, Jalan Pengiran Cluster in Matu, Tabong Cluster in Bau, Bedayan Cluster in Serian, Bukti Sekubong Cluster in Sebauh, Jelita Cluster and Bah Sayap Cluster in Miri as well as the Tangap (Subis) Sub-Cluster in Sibu,” it added.

SDMC also said that active case detection (ACD) was conducted on Feb 20 to 21 in Sibu district.

“ACD was conducted in Zone 7 (Tiong Hua) and 1,207 samples were taken. Of the total, eight of the samples were found positive,” it said.
