KUCHING: Nurani Poliku team with its narration entitled ‘Sharip Masahor, Wira Tersohor’ representing Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions emerged champion of the State-level ‘Pengisahan Negaraku 2017’ Competition held at SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor, Stampin, here, yesterday.

Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who officiated at the competition said the competition was aimed at encouraging the public to share their thought and opinions about historical events and the persons involved.

“It is also aimed at creating space for the general public to express their views, personal manifestations and opinions on the feeling of the independence programme and enhance the spirit of integration among the various races, cultures, religions and territories through historical facts and the struggles of national figures. “In August, we will celebrating the Independence month and on 16 September, Malaysia Day. We have also celebrated Sarawak Day on 22 July.

“In conjunction with the Independence month in August it is an opportunity for us to appreciate the struggles of our forefathers in the formation of Malaysia.

“Apart from that, we should show our sincerity in displaying the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ (national flag) during this Independence month,” he said.
Dr Sim also said that with such a competition organised by the State Information Department it would enhance the people’s spirit of love for the country.

“Hence, I hope the department will continue to organise this kind of programme in the future,” he said.
