Offering yardstick of nation’s legal reform

KUCHING: The official visit of the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) to the United Kingdom would provide a benchmark of legal reform in Malaysia.

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar emphasised the working visit achieved the goal of providing new experiences and knowledge on the structure of legal institutions in the United Kingdom.

During his 10-day visit from June 20 to June 29, he had a meeting with several commissions such as The Law Commission of England and Wales, The Charities Commission for England and Wales as well as the information commissioner’s office.

In addition, he also held meetings and discussions with other agencies such as the Parliament of the United Kingdom,  Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and The Sentencing Council of England and Wales.

In a statement yesterday, the Santubong MP said the visit ended by a meeting with Malaysian students including the Malaysian diaspora.

The delegation from Malaysia was welcomed by the British High Commissioner to Malaysia H.E. Charles Hay and Commission Officers, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office London, the Malaysian Embassy in London, Education Malaysia London and all agencies in the United Kingdom.

He also expressed his appreciation to his department’s Legal Affairs Division, Parliament of Malaysia, the Malaysian Prison Department, the Prime Minister’s Office and individuals who had made his work visit to the United Kingdom a success.
