SINGAPORE: Sarawak will be able to achieve its target to become a net food exporter by 2030 with the setting up of its Trade and Tourism Office (Statos) here, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said it was vital to establish the office in Singapore as it would further enhance the state’s agricultural sector.

“Singapore is a global trading hub. We will be able to directly export our agricultural products to Singapore through Statos. From here it could be exported to other markets such as China and Europe,” said Uggah when met at the soft opening of Statos.

He added, “There are already many Sarawak-made products on display such black pepper, Bario rice, bird nest, dried food items and handicrafts.

“The setting up of Statos will be a great opportunity for farmers, entrepreneurs and manufacturers from Sarawak to sell their products.”
