MIRI: An offshore oil and gas safety and skills training centre, IG Training Centre (IGTC), has been allowed to conduct training courses under strict Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance.

The letter of approval from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) was yesterday presented by the minister in-charge of Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), Datuk Lee Kim Shin, to the management of the IGCT.

“Since the movement control order (MCO), all oil and gas training centres had been closed. This has affected those going to work in the oil and gas industry offshore,” said Lee.

He added that under the safety and skill requirements, there were a number of training courses that offshore workers must undergo to get the necessary certification.

“For instance, Basic Offshore Safety Induction Emergency Training and Travel Safety by Boat, Helicopter Underwater, Escape Training, Basic First-Aid with CPR Training, Basic Fire Fighting.

“It is also mandatory for them to undergo refresher courses and renewal of their certificates before they can proceed to work offshore.”
