Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali (pic) has confirmed that once everything is in place, the state government will take legal action against Petronas.

The Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had earlier highlighted that the state government will allow the law to take its course.

“It goes without saying that the state government will now pursue this matter vigorously and we will utilise all legal avenues available to get the amount due from Petronas,” said Hasidah during a press conference at the DUN Complex in Petra Jaya here, yesterday.

When prompted by reporters, she explained that the longer the payment is delayed, the greater the amount of interest that would have to be paid according to the law.

“It will accumulate,” stated Hasidah.

She reiterated that as stated by the chief minister during his state Budget announcement on Monday, Petronas has not, to date, paid the state sales tax (SST) on petroleum products due to the state under the SST Ordinance 1998.

While other companies had paid the SST, Petronas has yet to pay the five percent sales tax by the October 31 deadline.

Earlier, Sarawak had issued a Notice of Assessment to Petronas seeking the due payment and cautioned that failure to do so will result in legal action.
