KUCHING: Some 2,000 people gathered at La Promenade Mall to mark the official opening of the second edition of Oktoberfest, last night (Sept 16).

La Promenade Mall is hosting the four-weekend festival for the second time, which will run until October 8, taking place every Thursday to Sunday.

The event was officiated by Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos, represented by MPKS councillor, Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok.

This year’s Oktoberfest at La Promenade features live music, double the number of food vendors, more marquees, and additional seating options.

Visitors will also be treated to performances by popular local artists, At Adau and Mozaik.

La Promenade Mall’s digital marketing manager, Sophia Ong said the festival’s stage is large and equipped with better speakers to ensure the audience enjoys a front-row view.

“Besides a great festive atmosphere at La Promenade’s Oktoberfest, also just as great is the live music. That’s why we are sparing no expense for music at La Promenade’s Oktoberfest.

“And, importantly, we’ve also made sure to have a quieter chill-out zone at our Oktoberfest, for those who just want to enjoy the company of friends and families,” Ong said.

She added that the live music at La Promenade’s Oktoberfest spans various genres, including modern rock, local indigenous pop, country, and female vocals, featuring notable musicians like country band OnStrings, Reeening Lau (who will share the stage with vocalists Raquel and Fransiska), Ve6, and more.

As for food, festivalgoers can indulge in offerings from various vendors, including Ajishou, GE Sausage, Zoro, Yi Chuan Noodle, Wan’s More Burger, Borneo Fresh Pork, Terrace, and Vietnamese Street Food. A variety of beverages are also available.

Ong noted that parking is free, and improvements have been made in terms of way-finding signs, covered seating, and additional toilets.
