SINGAPORE: The establishment of the first Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office (Statos) here will position the Land of the Hornbills on the global market.

Its chief executive officer Chew Chang Guan said Statos plays an important role in linking business trades and investments between Singapore and Sarawak.

“This is an achievement to have Statos as a trade hub to reach out not only to Singapore but also to the world,” he said during the soft opening of Statos.

“There would be a series of promotional activities to further promote Sarawak-made products and also to attract investment.”

Strategically located at the centre of Singapore, Chew said Sarawakians especially entrepreneurs are welcome to market their products through Statos.

“Entrepreneurs must ensure that they have the volume to market their products, and must be of quality in terms of packaging and meet the standards of Singapore.

“I am confident that Sarawak’s products will be able to compete with others,” he pointed out.

He also thanked the Singapore government for collaborating with the state government, and looked forward to see the bilateral ties between Singapore and Sarawak progress to greater heights.

“In less than 48 hours … There are already so many people curiously coming in to ask me what is Sarawak, and what does it has to offer. This is definitely a good approach by our state government.”

Chew, who is from Kuching, will be assisted by his Singaporean deputy Putrie Rozana Soraya. Both of them have vast experiences in the tourism industry.

Currently, Statos is run by seven staff, and will be expanding soon.
