SARIKEI: A lorry attendant died in an accident involving two lorries along KM30, Jalan Bukit Berayang here this morning.
The 5.40 am fatal accident near Bukit Sebangkoi involved a courier service lorry and a lorry laden with fertilisers, that were travelling in the same direction.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Sarikei station were promptly despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 5.49 am.
Upon arrival, they came across two unconscious men who were pinned to their seats in the courier service lorry and work to extricate the victims began immediately.
Paramedics at the scene confirmed that one of them, identified as Muhd Ekxmal Hassim Abdul Rahman, 30, died at the scene and his body was taken to the hospital for further action.
The other victim, the 41-year-old driver, sustained head injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver and passenger in the other lorry escaped injuries.
