MIRI: A lorry driver with heart disease is believed to have collapsed at the wheel and crashed into seven parked cars near a surau and a roadside kuih stall at Kampung Lopeng Tengah.
The 31-year-old died at the scene. The incident occurred around 5.30 am on Friday (Aug 28).
Meanwhile, one of the car owners, aged 34, was injured and is currently being treated at Miri Hospital.
According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, some of the vehicles belonged to surau-goers who were performing morning prayer, while the rest belonged to members of the public who had stopped to buy kuih.
The lorry was coming from Jalan Cahaya heading towards the Kampung Lopeng junction.
Police are still investigating the actual cause of the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
