KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (JBPN) yesterday reported another death in the state due to Covid-19, bringing the death toll in Sarawak to nine.

A total of 23 new Covid-19 positive cases were recorded, making the total number of cases in the state to 211 since March 13.

From the 23 cases, 21 are treated at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and two at Sibu Hospital, said JPBN chairman and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“A total of 91 person under investigation (PUI) cases were recorded, bringing the total PUI cases to 1,379. Of the total, 1,082 cases tested negative for Covid-19 while the remaining 86 cases are pending lab results.

“For the new PUI cases, 63 of them were screened at Kompleks Belia dan Sukan and 30 cases at SGH,” he told a daily press conference on the Covid-19 situation yesterday.

The remaining PUI cases were recorded in Samarahan (16), Asajaya (1), Serian (1), Betong (2), Mukah (1), Bintulu (4) and Miri (3).

Uggah said compliance to the movement control order (MCO) stood at 95.3 percent while 37 individuals were arrested for flouting the order. Forty one people were charged for the offence on April 1.
