BAU: An awareness campaign highlighting the importance of having a fire extinguisher in every household in the constituency will be implemented as early as next year.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the local council will spearhead efforts to engage community leaders to encourage each household to possess at least one fire extinguisher.

He emphasised that in certain areas, fire incidents occur without proper access for Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) personnel to respond promptly.

“It is essential for every household to be equipped with at least one fire extinguisher.

“I request the district council to initiate awareness campaigns for community leaders and local representatives to ensure that every home has a fire extinguisher.

“This is the most basic preparation for unexpected incidents, and we will begin implementing this initiative starting next year. Let’s ensure that every household is prepared,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the state-level Water Safety Activity programme at Tasik Biru here today (Oct 28).

During his address, Henry, who also serves as the Tasik Biru assemblyman, commended the dedication and enthusiasm of the B OMBA personnel.

He expressed his highest respect for all those who have dedicated their efforts to assisting in various issues here.

“Recently, there have been numerous water-related activities throughout Sarawak, including regattas and more.

“I believe many of the department’s personnel are working tirelessly around the clock. Without you, who else would help us?” he added.

The event also featured a surface water rescue demonstration, witnessed by the attendees.

BOMBA Sarawak Director Datuk Khiruddin Drahman was also present.
