SEBUYAU: A motorcyclist was killed while another sustained severe injury after their machines collided with each other due to a sudden U-turn last Sunday (Dec 27).

The collision happened around 9.30am at KM29, Jalan Kampung Sungai Nibong.

State Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said both riders were travelling in opposite directions prior to the collision.

“Shahardin Salleh, 32, was heading to Kuching from Sebuyau while the other rider, a 16-year-old girl, was heading to Sebuyau from Simunjan.

“Investigations found that the female rider made a sudden U-turn in the opposite lane and was hit by the male biker who was unable to avoid the collision,” he said.

As a result, Shahardin was pronounced dead at the scene while the female rider, who sustained severe injuries and was not identified, was rushed to Simunjan Hospital for immediate treatment.

Alexson added Shahardin’s body was taken to Serian Hospital for post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
