MIRI: One person was killed while two others were injured following a two-car collision early this morning near Simpang Bakas, Jalan Pan Borneo, Bekenu.
According to Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station chief Rary Binjie, the collision involved a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle and a compact car.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Freddy Jessey Rindy, who was the back seat passenger of the compact car.
Meanwhile five people inside the 4WD vehicle were unharmed.
A team of firemen responded to the incident upon receiving a distressed call at 4.26 am.
Upon their arrival, there were no victims trapped inside both vehicles.
Prior to the collision, the 4WD vehicle was heading towards Bintulu from here while the compact car was coming from the opposite direction.
