KUCHING: Police arrested one more lance corporal on Monday for drug abuse in ‘Ops Blue Devil’.

Sarawak Deputy Commis-sioner of Police, DCP Datuk Dev Kumar M M Sree (pic) told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday that the 33-year-old from the Sibu Traffic section tested positive for methamphetamine.

‘Ops Blue Devil’ is an operation launched nationwide to get policemen who are on drugs or in co-hort with the pushers to be flushed out from the force.

Although it was not a pleasant task any senior police would want to do, that is to catch their own, Dev said it was a must.

He added that the police department had to do that to gain the people’s trust and confidence and to effectively fight drugs.

“Trust me, the ‘Ops Blue Devil’ will continue. We will flush out each and every police involved. We are serious in getting rid of the drugs menace that destroys families and society.

“After all, we have already warned them (the police) that they should clean up their act or face the consequences,” he added.

When Dev witnessed the handing over of duty to the new head of the Sarawak Narcotics Department recently, he said enough had been said already and that it was going to be action from then on.

He vowed to clean Sarawak of drugs menace and said it was one of his important missions when he was posted back to Sarawak as a DCP in July this year. He was in Sarawak as head of the Crime Investigation Department a couple of years back.

Dev agreed that the drugs menace had spread to the interior highlands and said the situation was bad enough to warrant aggressive measures.

The six policemen who tested positive for drugs are back to work pending the second test results from the Pathology/Chemist Department.

Stating that the Police Narcotics Department could not combat drugs alone, Dev said he welcomed any information on drugs and urged members of the public to call 012-2087222.

He assured them that their identities would be kept confidential.

“Take it as everyone’s responsibility to rid this lovely state of the ugliness of drugs. We can all do it if we do it together,” added Dev.
