KUCHING GOES BACK TO YELLOW

KUCHING: Kuching returned to the yellow zone after one new Covid-19 case was reported yesterday, bringing the total number of positive cases in Sarawak to 687.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the new case was a local transmission, involving a 26-year-old Indian national working as a fisherman at a fishing vessel company here.

The case has undergone the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) swab screening for Covid-19 for the purpose of returning to his country of origin at a private hospital here last Thursday.

Laboratory test results found that his nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab were positive for Covid-19 on the same day.

The case showed no signs or symptoms of the virus, and was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

SDMC said this case had been categorised as local transmission as the individual had no history of travelling abroad since arriving in Malaysia in July 2019.
