KUCHING: One positive Covid-19 case was detected today, bringing the total number of cases statewide to 608.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the case was a local man who returned from the Philippines.

He said the man had worked in Manila, Philippines since last December and returned to the state last Friday through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuching International Airport (KIA) on the same day.

“The patient had shown no symptoms and was brought to the quarantine centre immediately after arriving in Kuching.

“He then underwent the rT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) swab test on July 18 and was found to be positive for Covid-19. He was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital and contact tracing for the case is still ongoing,” he said when delivering SDMC’s daily Covid-19 update today.

Following this, Uggah announced that there are no newly discharged Covid-19 patients, with the total number of discharged patients remaining at 554 or 91.12 percent.

“There are currently 35 Covid-19 patients receiving treatments at isolation wards in hospitals, with the total number of deaths at 18 or 2.96 percent,” he noted.

There are also 20 new persons under investigation (PUI) cases and ten are awaiting laboratory test results.
