KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new positive Covid-19 case here today, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 701.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, said the case was an imported case of a local female engineer from Cheras, Selangor.

“The case entered Sarawak via Kuching International Airport (KIA) from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sept 14 and was swabbed for rT-PCR test through random Covid-19 screening upon arrival.

“The case has come to Kuching on official business and has only been in Sarawak for two days. While in Kuching, she stayed at a local hotel here,” it said in a statement.

The case’s swab sample was found to be positive on the evening of Sept 16.

The case was successfully detected during the flight back to Kuala Lumpur and was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor for further treatment on the same day.

“The case did not show any early signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“The case was also found to have been infected prior to entering Sarawak. The case also never made a visit abroad.

“The cause of the infection is still under further investigation and contact tracing for this case is underway,” it added.

SDMC also reported that since there were no new recoveries and discharged cases, the number of recoveries and discharged cases remained at 680 or 97 percent.

Two cases are still receiving treatment in hospitals — one each at Sibu Hospital and Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor.

One Covid-19 cluster, that is the Alam Cluster in Bintulu, is still active with eight cases. All cases from the cluster have recovered and been discharged from the hospital.

The death toll in the state remains at 19 or 2.71 percent.

Meanwhile, five new person under investigation (PUI) cases were reported and no cases are awaiting laboratory test results.
