One-off aid for needy students

OYA: Students from low income families in this district who will be furthering their study would receive a one-off educational aid.

This financial assistance is from the Dalat Constituency Educational Aid Foundation Scheme and covers many categories.

“This one-off assistance is given to children from families with a total household income of RM2,000 and below. 

“They are divided into three categories, namely RM1,000 for those who will be pursuing their study at institutions of higher learning or tertiary education, RM500 for diploma course and RM200 for Form six,” said Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah in her speech at the presentation of incentives to the students who excelled in their last year’s Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations here last weekend.

Fatimah, who is also Dalat Assemblywoman pointed out that the applicants of the aids must be Malaysian and to submit offer letters from the intended learning institutions.

At the event she also presented notebook and incentives from the Dalat District Education Committee followed by letters of appointment for the new village chief of Kampung Boom and Kapitan of Oya Bazaar.

Fatimah, also visited Ong Hock Peng at his house behind Oya Bazaar to officiate the repairing of roof and ceiling and painting of walls project on Ong’s house which was carried out by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Dalat Branch Welfare Committee.  During the visit, she also gave a wheelchair to Ong.

Also present were Dalat District Officer, Kueh Lei Poh,  Dalat District Education Officer, Ahli B Chikba, Temenggong Hendi Suhai, principal of SMK Oya, Malihah Bt Sirat, heads of departments and local community leaders.
