One park, four reserves open on New Year’s Eve

KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), controller of 46 national parks, five wildlife sanctuaries and 15 nature reserves, has announced that it will only allow one Nature Park and four nature reserves open to public on New Year’s Eve.

On the sites that will be opened that day, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) will have all other parks, sanctuaries and nature reserves closed except for its Sama Jaya Nature Reserve, located in Tabuan area, Kuching, Bukit Sembilang/Bukit Hitam Nature Reserve, located in Limbang and at Bukit Lima Nature Reserve and Piasau Nature Reserve located in Miri.

“Only Sama Jaya Nature Reserve, Santubong National Park, Bukit Sembilang/Bukit Hitam Nature Reserve, will be open for visitation on Dec 31,” SFC said in a Facebook post today.

According to SFC, Sarawak has one of the most extensive networks of protected areas in Southeast Asia in forest conservation and wildlife has 46 national parks, five wildlife sanctuaries and 15 nature reserves.
