Online gambling suspect caught

The suspect’s belongings believed to be for carrying out the online gambling sales activity, have been seized by Bau police.

BAU: Police here arrested a local man on suspicion of engaging in an online gambling sales activity in a convenience store along Jalan Joseph Valentine Cotter today.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the Ops Dadu Khas raid was carried out by the district’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) around 2.45pm around town.

“This was when the team spotted the suspect and detained him as he was believed to be involved in online gambling sales activity.

“Also seized were the suspect’s phone, a SIM card and a sum of cash,” he said in a statement.

The 31-year-old suspect who did not have any past record, was taken to the police station along with the seized items.

Poge stated that the case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, which carries for a fine up to RM50,000 or a jail term up to three years, if convicted.
