BAU: A shop assistant’s involvement in online gambling landed him in trouble. He was arrested at Jalan Jambusan, here on Monday (Jan 10).

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers who were on an operation codenamed Ops Dadu arrested the suspect in a coffee shop around 5pm.

The 35-year-old suspect was believed to be operating the online gambling via his phone.

“Police seized a handphone and an undisclosed amount of cash from the suspect. The suspect was brought to Bau police station for further action,” he said.

The suspect did not have any past record. He is currently under remand to facilitate investigations.

He is investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which carries a fine up to RM50,000 or a jail term up to three years, upon conviction.
