KUCHING: Police here crippled an online gambling syndicate with the arrests of 14 individuals in a raid at a residential unit in Winsor Estate at Mile 4 on Wednesday (Oct 28).

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Dennis Leong said that the syndicate had converted the house into a call centre, and was raking in RM300,000 a month from the illegal activities.

“The suspects aged between 20 and 29 were nabbed around 2.45pm. They comprised four foreign women, eight foreign men and two local men,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Leong said in the raid, which was conducted by a team from the Sarawak Police Contingent Anti-Vice, Gaming and Secret Societies Unit (D7), 10 computers, five modems and 12 handphones believed to be used in the online gambling activities were also seized.

He added the centre had been operating for almost a year.
