Booster dose – kicker

ONLY PFIZER VACCINE ALLOWED

KUCHING: The administration of booster doses throughout Sarawak is in accordance with the Health Ministry’s (MoH) latest policy, whereby only the Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty) vaccine is allowed as a booster dose to recipients of Pfizer-BioNTech or Sinovac primer doses.

In saying this, State Health Department (JKNS) deputy director (Public Health) Dr Rosemawati Ariffin, however, added that the Sinovac vaccine was only used as a booster dose in certain circumstances, such as if the recipient of the vaccine had contraindications or allergies to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

She said this in response to a recent statement by Bukit Assek incumbent Irene Chang in which she questioned the availability of Sinovac booster vaccines in Sabah but not in Sarawak.

“Booster doses are also given by taking into account the priority categories of at-risk groups and the time interval that has been determined according to the type of primer dose vaccine previously received,” said Dr Rosemawati in a statement yesterday (Friday).

“This policy is in line with the current circular and instructions from MoH regarding the implementation of booster doses and third doses,” she added.
