KUCHING: Sarawak is beautiful like a pearl that everybody wants to get hold of.

This latest description of the state was made by no less than the chief minister himself when he spoke at “Majlis Ramah Mesra Aidilfitri Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Zon Kuching 2019” at Pullman Hotel last Monday night.

“For that reason, GPS must not allow outsiders take control of the state which has lots of natural resources,” said Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Urging PBB to continue fighting for the people with all its might, he said the party must work hard and not take things for granted because their political adversary is also in power.

“Remember they are the government and at the federal level too. That’s a fact, but we are not weak in our own state and we will continue to fight for Sarawak’s rights,” he said.

Touching on the next state election, he said PBB must do its utmost to retain all its state seats while at the same time work together with other Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

“When will election come… I don’t know … but we must be prepared,” he said.

In recalling the recent failed attempt to amend Article 1 (2) of the Federal Constitution by the federal government, he congratulated the GPS members of Parliament for being firm in not supporting it.

“If the federal government had included the words ‘in pursuant to the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63)’, we would have supported it. Thank you to our GPS Chief Whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and other MPs who stood firm,” he said.

“Our MPs are just like ‘cili padi’; they may be friendly, but when it comes to the crux of things, they won’t tolerate any nonsense or hanky-panky.”

Abang Johari then reminded the people not to allow themselves be manipulated to support the political agenda of Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“Remember that only Sarawakians can look after Sarawak because it is their country, and just like our late Tok Nan (late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem) said ‘Jaga Sarawak bait bait’.”
