Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu said the programme which was held for two days at Dewan Panglima Rentap, Betong was done to distribute the aid to dwellers in the area.

Rentap, who accompanied the deputy minister on the latter’s working visit to the state said the two-day programme saw the attendance of 1,697 recipients to receive their aid from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government.

“After performing the Friday prayer with constituents at Masjid Jamek Betong, the deputy minister also presented the mosque with 50 praying mats, 30 copies of Al-Quran as well as two standing fans.

“During his visit, the deputy minister also visited bank branches in Betong town,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday (July 10).

Rentap said for Betong, they really need more mainstream banks to open their branch there.

“With the rising density of the dwellers here, the three existing bank branches could not accommodate the banking needs of its people,” he said.
