PADAWAN: Police have issued fifteen traffic summonses to vehicle owners found to have modified their exhaust resulting in noise pollution.

A spokesperson from the Padawan district police headquarters said the summonses were issued in an integrated operation codenamed Ops Ekzos together with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Department of Environment (DOE) on Wednesday from 10am to 12pm at Jalan Batu Kawa, here.

“Following the issue of public concern over vehicles that emit high noise levels, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department has issued instructions for the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division in every district throughout the country to carry out operations against exhaust modification.

“Modifying the exhaust to produce excessive noise level is an offence under Rule 103 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959. Such offences carry a fine of up to RM2,000 upon conviction.

“People are advised not to use modified exhausts that emit high noise levels on cars or motorcycles,” he added.
