Ops Libas nets 84 illegal immigrants

MIRI: A total 84 illegal immigrants, including eight children were arrested during a raid held early yesterday.

They were rounded up during the 2am raid on a premises housing workers of an estate in Bekenu, along the Miri-Bintulu road.

The operation, dubbed “Ops Libas” was carried out by 12th Battalion of General Operations Force Miri (GOF) together with the local Immigration Department. A total of 39 GOF men and eight Immigration enforcement personnel were involved.

According to Miri GOF commanding officer, Supt Tan Hiap Seng, the operation was held following on a stakeout conducted earlier.

“All those arrested are Indonesians, the youngest one year old and the oldest 58 years old,” he said.

Those arrested are currently detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without valid document.

All illegal immigrants have been surrendered to Miri Immigration Department for further action.
