BETONG: An Indonesian man was among 10 persons arrested in an “Ops Sarang” operation against drug abuse activities here on Wednesday.

All the suspects aged between 17 and 42 years were rounded up at an unnumbered house along Jalan Rapong, Debak.

State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief, Supt Sahar Abd Latif said the four-hour operation was carried out by a team of narcotics police from the state police headquarters acting on information received through surveillance works.

“The suspects are general workers except for one who is unemployed. All the suspects were taken to the district police headquarters for further action,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Sahar also said that nine of those detained tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine while the other tested negative.

“The case is being investigated under Section 15 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said, adding that four of the suspects had prior criminal record and were repeated drug offenders.
