Ops Tapis nets six for drugs

Authorities comprising of RTD, NADA and police personnel carry out the integrated operation.

SERIAN: Six individuals were arrested for drug-related offences in a special integrated operation codenamed ‘Ops Tapis’ at Serian Enforcement Station on Wednesday (July 27).

The operation helmed by Serian Narcotic Criminal Division (NCID), was carried out by 42 personnel from Serian traffic police, Serian Road Transport Department (RTD) Operation unit, Serian Enforcement Station and the Serian National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA).

According to the Sarawak RTD’s Facebook page, the teams have inspected a total of 76 individuals throughout the operation and of the figure, six were arrested by the authorities.

Under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the NCID team arrested three individuals while, the NADA team arrested three more individuals under Section 3 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

In addition, Serian RTD personnel issued a total of 48 notices for various offenses committed by road users.

The aim of the operation is to detect individuals involved in substance abuse, especially among the youth, drivers and passengers of public service vehicles, goods vehicles and private vehicles.

The department said such operation will be conducted from time to time to ensure road users are free from the influence of drugs while driving.
