KUCHING: Members of the public who are placed under quarantine can request to be accommodated at Low Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) instead of being quarantined at home.
Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said the public could do so when the home conditions were unsuitable for quarantine.
“If you are not confident that your home is suitable for quarantine, you can request to be placed at PKRCs, we will accommodate.
“Maybe the patients have elderly people living with them or small children. They need to inform the medical workers,” he said in a livestream on Saturday (Sept 18).
Dr Annuar added he had personally received requests from individuals to be exempted from being quarantined at PKRCs.
“They say they cannot live there. In this regard, I cannot overrule as it is the professional decision of their attending physicians.
“I do not attend to the patients personally The worst part, if I overrule the decision, I am worried untoward things may occur to the patients when they are allowed to go home.
“So I cannot overrule a professional decision by my colleague. Being a doctor myself, I know this,” he said.
At the same time, the Nangka assemblyman also reminded those who were exhibiting symptoms such as fever and sore throat to seek medical help immediately.
“This is because there are certain cases where the severity of the cases deteriorates quickly from Category 1 and Category 2 straight to Category 5. That is why there are brought in dead (BID) cases,” he said.
Dr Annuar added, for Sibu, data on the current status of past Category 1 and Category 2 cases were being collected to identify the percentage of cases which deteriorated.
“To prevent deterioration, we need to keep ourselves healthy and change our lifestyle and those who are exhibiting symptoms, please get yourselves checked,” he stressed.
