Orion 13 out roars 66 to win powerboat title

KAPIT: Orion 13, Revival 25 and HR Speed 36 teams shone in the finals of the just concluded powerboat competition which was one of the activities held at the water front here to coincide with the two-day Baleh Kapit Raft Safari 2019 last weekend.

The powerboat competition was one of the activities organised by Kapit Division Powerboat Association (Kadpa) in collaboration with the Kapit Youth and Sports Department office in as part of this year’s Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari.

The competition which was divided into five categories attracted 67 boat teams.

The categories are 8.5 hp pump engine with 11 teams, 18 hp tunnel boat and below (19), 30 hp three pistons tunnel boat and below (14), 35 hp two pistons tunnel boat (13) and 10 boat teams in the 50 hp tunnel boat open.

Orion 13 won first place in the 50 hp tunnel boat open category to lift the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing Challenge Trophy. A team from Brunei, Ferarri 78 was in second place while Black Sparrow 87 came in third. In fourth place was Alta Kuda Laut 46 while in fifth place was Song Team 19.

Meanwhile, Revival 25 racing team won first place in the 30 hp tunnel boat category with GPNB 69 in second place and Megamas 50 in third. In fourth place was Pegasus 23 with BGRT 55 in fifth place. With the win Revival 25 team lifted the Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi Challenge Cup.

In the 35 hp tunnel boat (two pistons) category GB Group Tan 18 won first place to lift the Datuk Temenggong Jinggut Atan Challenge Trophy while Athena 19 won second place and HR Speed 36 was third. Megamas 51 was in fourth place with HR Speed 16 was in fifth place.

HR Speed 36 racing team won first place in the 18 hp tunnel boat category to lift the Datuk Wilson Ugah Kumbong Challenge Trophy while in second place was GB 31. In third place was Alta Kuda Laut 46 was in third place. In fourth place was John Racing Team 13 while Athena Racing Team 13 was in fifth place.

Meanwhile, LB Group 89 won first place in the 8 hp pump engine category to lift the Temenggong Datuk Kenneth Kanyan Challenge Cup while Orion Venom 99 was in second place. Pro Fire 46 came in third with Pesaka Baleh 49 in fourth place. In fifth place was Sago 35.

The top three winners each received prizes in the form of cash and trophies while the fourth and fifth place winners receive cash prizes only.

The winners received their prizes from Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Bukit Mabong district officer, Douglas Pungga, Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Kapit district officer Elvis Didit and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang.

Among those present were a political secretary to the chief minister Tapah Ata, KDC walikota Datuk Philimon Nuing, heads of government departments, local community leaders and over 3,000 people.
