KUCHING: A total of 65 orphans around Kuching were invited to a breaking of fast gathering during which they also received duit raya at Warung Nasi Pengilan Astana, here.

The event was the first social responsibility programme organised by Koperasi Petra Jaya Kuching Berhad in collaboration with SFMP Global Empire.

Its chairman Dr Loji Roji Saibi said the cost of the iftar meal with the orphans was fully funded by a philanthropist from Kuala Lumpur who wanted to remain anonymous.

“The orphans were notified through surau in Kampung Samariang Batu, Kampung Boyan to Kampung Bintawa accompanied by 38 guardians,” he told Suara Sarawak.

Dr Loji said, Warung Nasi Pengilan which started operating on February 12 is run by young entrepreneurs and assisted by Koperasi Petra Jaya Bhd in terms of providing capital to manage the business.

The main objective of Koperasi Petra Jaya Kuching Berhad established in 2015 is to give encouragement to young people interested in entrepreneurship.

Earlier, he explained, the cooperative only relied on retail sales such as anchovies, traditional cakes, apong sugar, dried fish but soon after, it managed to get cooperation from Angkasa to market the products more widely.
